Petai Fried Rice Bento

I am in love with my new bento box. I thought that it would be impossible to buy this pretty wooden box in Germany, but I managed to get it from Amazon.de.

This bento is super simple: I had fried rice with petai beans and shrimps (I used brown rice this time though), spicy Korean style bean sprouts, two cherry tomatoes, a piece of radish and store-bought Shibazuke (Japanese red pickled cucumber).

If you want to try the Korean style bean sprouts, you only need to boil the bean sprouts, drain and then sprinkle with sesame oil, soy sauce and Korean red pepper flakes to taste. Easy and delicious!

  8. I recently discovered your nice website, and wanted to thank you for your recipes : I'm actually very fond of asian food. You seem not to have checked your comments last week, where I left you one about the recipe of the glutinous coconut balls. I wondered if you could tell me how to do it without the coconut flakes ? Thanks again, and all the best !

  9. @ Helena - Apologies for not noticing your comment in my 'Coconut Balls' post...! Unfortunately I don't know how to make the custard filling without the coconut flakes. I've got the recipe from my dim sum cookbook and it only gives the recipe with coconut flakes. I prefer pure custard filling too, but adding coconut flakes doesn't make a huge difference in the custard's flavour, maybe you can give it a shot and let me know if you like it...:).

  10. I can totally see why you love your new bento box - it's adorable. I love natural textures and colours like this!

Also - petai beans? Damn, just when I thought I'd heard of all the beans you mention another one I never heard of... haha :D

  11. Hi ! I'm glad about your answer, even if you couldn't really help me... I was actually thinking of realizing the same recipe with the same amount of mung bean puree instead of the coconut flakes, it would maybe work well too (I think I wouldn't like a too strong taste of coconut). Anyway, thanks for having shared this recipe, the dim sum cookbook you're talking about is really hard to get where I live :)
